Attitudes and using coupons at Walmart

Let's just say I was disappointed in my Walmart shopping trip.

Aggravated is more like it.

I had my WM coupons all ready.  I guess the cashier was in a bad mood and the people behind me were, too due to it being the only lane open where the item amount was unlimited.  There were only like 3 lanes opened and the lines were horribly long!  One lane was the tobacco lane where the item limit was 10, the other was the 20 items or less limit.

As my items are being scanned, I like to watch that little credit card thingie so I can keep up with the running total.  It was sideways and I tried to turn it to face me and the clerk snapped, "Don't turn it!  It will only work that way!".  Well, I quickly rotated it back into place and commented that it wasn't working anyway and she told me to watch the other display, what ever they call that thing that shows the price being charged.

The line was growing and I could feel the resentment from the lady behind me, tho I didn't know her and hadn't done anything to her.  I didn't even have many items.  She was just mad at me for some reason.

I handed the clerk my coupons and she began to scan.  I heard the beep, but the display never changed.  She took my money and coupons and put them in the drawer.

I didn't want to hold up the line, so I walked away a few feet and checked my receipt.  I had used 6 coupons and it only scanned 4 of them.  Grr!  I didn't want to cause a scene and have her redo the items, that would have taken forever!  So I decided to ask for the coupons that didn't scan.  She never really told me yes, so when I asked a second time, she snapped at me again that she was going to check out this particular lady so she could open the drawer and retrieve the coupons.

Really, she didn't act like she believed me at all.

I turned on the sugar (turn away wrath with a soft word :)) and her attitude changed.  My daughter was watching the people in the line and they were looking at each other and shaking their heads like I was really doing them and the poor clerk wrong.

While this was going on, my hubby was getting the car outside.  As he was trying to pull out of a lane, some woman whipped around in front of him and glared at him like he was doing her wrong.

I don't know, maybe it was a full moon or something?!  lol.  I plan on doing my shopping at Kroger and the dollar stores from now on.

I think I can live without Walmart, their long lines and their crowded parking lots.

*Note - the two coupons that didn't scan were for Sara Lee bread and Malta Meal cereal.

Snow Cream (recipe)

This is a rerun from my Heart of A Country Home blog and is so delicious I had to share here.  Hope you enjoy!

I’ve made it different ways over the years, but

this is some of the best

Snow Cream I’ve ever made.

Kinda tastes like Homemade Ice Cream, which I love.

Snow Cream
1 can evaporated or Pet Milk
1 can condensed Milk
1 Tbsp vanilla flavoring
3/4 cups sugar
Stir all this together real well and then start adding snow until the mixture gets thicker.  My daughter went out twice for snow until we got it the way we wanted it.  I just told her to make sure it was CLEAN snow.  (lol) It was.

Clever Ideas and Tips Worth Knowing

Clever Ideas and Tips Worth Knowing

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store.  If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.. I didn't know that!

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil.  It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Bell Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating.  Bell Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

For a cool Brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in a small microwaveable dish and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Leftover Snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!

For easy Deviled Eggs, put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up.  Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg.  Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well.   You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

When using a measuring cup...before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water.

Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

To expand a store-bought tub of frosting...whip it with your mixer for a few minutes.  It will almost double in size.  You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount.

Using newspapers as a weed block...Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Add a little water to your shampoo.  Adding a bit of water won't do any harm and you will be getting a couple of extra washes for your money.

Kitchenaids, Menu Planner, and a free download!

My daughters are becoming a big help in the kitchen.  At almost 12 and 13, they should be!

To encourage them to help out with meal planning, shopping with coupons, and cooking, I made a daily menu plan for them to fill out.  Their job is to choose a cookbook, select a main dish that they want to prepare, check the items we have on hand, and then prepare a shopping list.

I go searching for coupons to use on our shopping trip.  Our usual store to shop for groceries is Kroger, because of their great deals.  When combined with coupons, we're able to spend less.

My girls are doing a great job and are showing more of an interest in being a frugal shopper.  Read more about them here.

I'm offering a free printable pdf of the menu planner.  On the bottom is a "cut and carry" shopping list.
Hope it helps makes things a little easier in your life.
